18 Sep 96 , Peter Deane did fondle the keyboard and wrote to me!:
Yowser & greets Peter!,
PD> Yes, but I need to call someone on the TrapDoor development team to get
PD> TRAPDOOR.BETA, TRAPDOOR.DEVEL and AREAFIX.BETA, so I may as well pull
PD> in TRAPDOOR at the same time, and be timely linked to The Mad House.
PD> The Zone 2 Zone 1 gate for TRAPDOOR is horribly unreliable, and by
PD> sourcing it in Zone 2 I can at least hear what the TrapCrew says, and
PD> if I miss the odd message from Zone 1, well, it's only a bunch of
PD> yanks.
PD>> Want to tell me exactly how N640's TRAPDOOR feed is currently flowing?
RV>> Err.. umm.. ahhh.. how should I say this... err... well you see,
RV>> I don't get the TRAPDOOR echo and know little about it ;-)
PD> Oh. Well anyone ELSE please....
:) hehe..
Well I went over to Barry's and asked him a few questions :
So, some further info for yourself, and Arthur if he's interested.......
Soft-tech brings in the entire fidonet backbone - like every echo.
There is NO policy against passing these echo's around anywhere, except for
the usual responsibility's for dupe loops etc. The only charges are
labelled in local area for systems desiring local feeds (inc files), so
thus, Arthur would not be paying anything for any echo's he picks up from
Barry other than his phone call costs etc.
What Arthur then does with these echo's is entirely up to him, so he could
pass the trapdoor echo's on to you, no problem.
Your only problem will come from Sydney (and/or Melbourne) who seem to
think they are the Australian hub for fidonet - but then, they cannot stop
you getting echomail anywhere you want. (And that's fido policy)
Currently Soft-Tech (Alwyn's system) is also the feed for Northern
Territory and Sth Aust, Paradise (Barry's system) is the feed for Western
Australia and both seem to have a laugh at Sydney and Melbourne as they
basically only feed themselves.
And now I know why the messages in this echo seem to travel the slowest to
Melbourne, quicker to S.A. and W.A. then it is to there :)
Cheers, __
