Hi Reece, RI> You recall the explanation you gave about modems for the RI> Commodore machines and Swift Link and modems for IBMs? yeah. RI> I was wondering if using your info, an internal IBM type RI> modem could be connected to RI> the expantion port of a 64 or 128 with out the need for a SL Yes, but you would net an RS232 (voltage converter) type interface. RI> as (according to you) the componants (or RI> similar) of the SL are in one of these modems? NOT SO! The difference between an internal modem and an external modem is that the internal modems don't have a case or a power supply.. they are therefore cheaper. The IBM's still need an RS232 device driver card to use such modems. We can use such modems, but we still need the RS232 voltage converter if we intend to use the CBM's internal RS232 routines (therefore limiting ourselves to 2400), or we still need a swiftlink (or similar) to run faster modems. We will also need to add a power supply to the modem, and probably need to make a custom cable to connect the modems edge connector to whatever interface we are using.. The difference in cost between internal and external modems is typically only $30-$50, which is a small price to pay for the convenience of an external modem.
