subject: SOM start info ?

I know nothing about SOM - so I picked up an old 1994 book on SOM:

 Objects For OS/2
 By Scott H. Danforth and Paul Koenen and Bruce Tate
 1994
 VNR

 This book was written for C users to start learning "objects" and
 Som 2.0 for OS/2 2.0 and CSet/2 C++ - questions:

 I have Watcom 10.a (plus DEVCON 9) and I know there are differences
 but will this compiler and it's version of SOM goodies work okay (not
 bother my Warp (no fix paks) OS/2 "stuff") or should I start with
 Watcom 10.6 and a higher version of SOM (what version now comes
 with 10.6 ?) and adjust the book's "teachings" to this higher version
 of SOM ?

 The book ends with chapters covering things to come - SOM 2.1 and
 MetaWare's DirectToSOM C++ which I know I should be using but .....

 I guess you can say I'm reading the book more for SOM information,
 but .....

 Thanks,
 -Jeffrey-
