        I think that it is. When burning anyway.

        A gotcha ! Roxio that is on my system now, offers a choice of
        rate when burning CDs, for any mode. I normally do not pick the
        fastest rate. Have a look.

        Also, does not this rate thing reffer to a transfer of bytes not
        neccessarily an rpm thingee ? If I pick a 24x for instance, to
        maintain that rate, it spins up in the center but slows down on
        the outside reach of the read head ?
