That would be difficult. The bed in question is a flower bed along the
driveway. It is already full of perennials. I'm not even sure what is
all there since I did not plant any of it. Also, everything is
scattered with no order to it.

I like this suggestion. However, would you not have to be careful when
putting the ties around the plant not to hurt it?

The composter is just one more thing I have to think about getting.
