subject: pornography in homeschooling

Nadia Rozga (On 07 May 97) was overheard expounding to Sarah Nunez,
NR> Thankyou for your reply. I understand that individuals outside a
NR> homeschooling environment have no right to contradict the values
NR> his/her parents teach, although other issues need to be considered.
                            ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Why? What business is it of anyone in public education what the
homeschoolers are teaching? For the most part they are homeschooling
because they have lost all faith and confidence in the public school
 system or for religious reasons...
NR> Some sort of guidence and advice on important issues such as
NR> pornography, need to be addressed in order to control youth within
 NR> society.
Who determines in Oz what constitutes pornography? Who should be
imposing "guidance" and "advice" to you who are, after all one of
those youths who need to be controlled.
NR> If ALL hildren (including home schooling students) are
NR> not kept away from this material then a mixture of morals and
NR> beliefs on pornoraphy are being placed on individuals in society.
What an absolutely frightening thought .. that there should be some
diversity of opinion and thinking in a free society. No, no can't
have any of that dangerous thinking going on. Lets impose your moral
standards and beliefs on EVERYONE in Sydney for starters and slowly
let it spread across the continent...why who knows... you might
eventually get to impose your morals and values on those rotten
 Kiwis...
NR> Qu: Why should it be the choice of parents in the homeschooling
NR> situation to allow this type of access if they desire to.
Ans: Why should it not be?
NR> Qu: Do you you think homeschooling activities using the computer
NR> need to be evaluated more regularly to ensure the use of the
NR> computer (internet) is not abused in the learning environment?
Evaluated by who? When you use the nebulous term "learning
environment" you think that your understanding and acceptance is
shared by all. Homeschoolers are a different breed altogether; they
have rejected the traditional "learning environment" as being
inappropriate and unworkable for _their child(ren)_.
What makes you think they either need or desire "guidance", "advice"
"evaluation" to avoid abuse of the computer. Computer is not
 synonymous with internet BTW.
Just out of nosiness what year are you in?
... Puritanism: The morbid fear that someone somewhere might be having fun.
