I see your point Ronald that in a bike ride that holds over 15 000 riders the 
risks of accidents do soar. There are all sorts of riders from the 
experienced to the novice. Those that are strong riders may not have the 
know-how to ride in a pack. The longer the tour the greater chance of mishap 
do to tired riders making bad decisions. Helmets here - yup I agree.
Here in Quebec, Canada we also have a bike tour in Montreal on the first 
sunday of June. 45 000 riders moving along the island of Montreal. You should 
come try it. Forms go out the beginning of April, first to send them in make 
it in. After 45 000 forms are accepted the rest are refused. The organizers 
want to keep it that size and no more. The Tour is called Le Tour de l'Ile de 
Montreal (french). I believe this is the largest bike gathering outside of 
China.
