or a change in the design...
in the past there were 2 sets of connectors  on soundcards for different wiring
patterns
(RGGL  vs RGLG) but the connectors weren't independant... plugging two
drives in would have the same effect as your probposed y-cable

it might work, it might lead to distortion. it might not work.it might
damage something (unlikely imo)
