| subject: | Re: Explorer 2k on FAT |
From: John Beckett Yes, I use ZTree over a network with mapped drive letters. I confess that sometimes if I want to copy a complex folder structure (with all contents) from one place to another, then I might just use Explorer. Pretty hard to beat Explorer's interface for that. Mostly, however, it's ZTree. I'm pretty certain that ZTree just uses the standard file API, so it should not be any less reliable on NTFS or mapped drives, compared with FAT partitions. I have done some quite complex stuff with ZTree both locally and over a network. I haven't crashed a recent version, but some of the earlier versions were pretty easy to kill. However, I have never lost any data. I've used ZTree on several NT4 and W2000 systems. BTW just this week I discovered something about ZTree. I use Word for editing .doc files, and Paintbrush for occasionally looking at a .bmp bitmap. I thought you had to use the .bat files that are in ZTree's folder for these operations. However, if you just delete the bat files, then ZTree will do a standard open using the normal file association.
