-=> Quoting JEAN PARROT to LEONARD ERICKSON <=- JP> Good morning to you Leonard, how are you today ? LE> Boot into Safe mode, and then go into Device manager and delete the LE> IDE stuff (and any other stuff that you no longer have in the system). LE> Then reboot. Windows doesn't actually *remove* the drivers if you just LE> pull the hardware or even if you remove the device after a normal LE> boot. You have to do it in safe mode. JP> These lines of wisdom have been dumped to the printer for JP> safekeeping. In the mean time, I was able to regain my CD JP> device with a redo of the OS. I was due for one anyway. JP> Thanks for precise instructions. Well, aftrer long, sad experience, I find that the *minimum* safe way of replacing some cards is: 1. remove card from device manager 2. shut down 3. physically remove card 4. boot system 5. Let windows go thru prompting you for disks for driver changes, restarting as many times as needed until windows boots "clean". 6. shut down 7. install new card or device 8. boot system. 8. let windows prompt for drivers, etc. Reboot as necessary until windows boots "clean". For especially bad stuff, add: 0. boot to safe mode --- FMailX 1.60* Origin: Shadowgard (1:105/50) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 105/50 360 106/2000 633/267 |
