BL>BLACK or RED ANTS:
BL>1. Mix together a solution of 1/3 Cup molasses, 1 Tablespoon
BL>granulated sugar and 1 Tablespoon dry yeast.
BL>2. Smear this on a piece of stiff paper or thin cardboard, and place
BL>next to the ant source. The ants will eat this mixture and the yeast
BL>will cause them to swell and burst. The person on TV said you should
BL>see nothing but dead ants by the next day.
BL>FIRE ANTS:
BL>Take some uncooked dry grits and sprinkle around the fire ant hill.
BL>The fire ants will eat the grits and they, too, will burst open. The
BL>how-to-do guy swore that this works every time.
BL>A nice thing about both of these solutions is they are bio-degradable
BL>and won't harm pets or flowers. I don't have any ants to experiment
BL>on, so would like to know if these solutions really work.
I can't address either concoction directly but they sound consistent
with a couple I have had some success with:
We Swamp Yankees don't find grits on many store shelves here about,
so I have used cornmeal cereal mixed with a little boric acid powder
and a little xxxx suger to further intice the ants to take some into
their queen and others in their nest to simiarily to bloat themselves
to death.
For use in the basement and/or cold-cellar (if one still has one 8-)
mix a tablespoon of sugar and a teaspoon of boric acid into a pint
of warm water, and then put it into bottle and/or jelly jar caps on
basement casement and other area the cat or dog won't reach (it
won't kill them but it will uncomfortably bloat them 8-(
Have a Happy Holiday of your choice.
Ciao, Ack.
