Actually, trojans are easy to code. I could happily write a trojan now, but
I'm a long way from being able to write a virus. Trojan's get their name from
the Trojan Horse, and are programs that pretend to do something usefull (and
sometimes actually do something usefull) while they do something harmfull.
One example was PKZIP 3.00, another is the README.EXE found in some ZIP
archives.
I believe you're thinking of various types of Steakth virus?
