Hi Jeff, Although you are incorrect, you place me in good company. Our founding fathers, including my personal hero - Thomas Jefferson - were all liberally minded people. It might even be useful to know that many of our nations heroes, civilian & military were liberally minded people. It was the liberal mindedness that helped to secure the very freedom you enjoy today. Besides, liberalism isn't a bad word anymore; Bush is no longer in office. > A small glimpse into the mind of a modern day liberal. Perhaps you didn't know that I'm retired military and a registered old school Republican. Although - I'm not in favor of the modern day sectarian republican party, I believe that too many of the (entrenched) republican leaders have aligned themselves with the religious right, crazy talk show hosts, and have simply polluted a big part of our party. But, I'm not alone with that paradigm, it seems as though the great many members of the Republican Party agrees. To that end, I've distanced myself from my party where I live in Texas. If I lived elsewhere, I might not have to do that. In Texas, the democrats (in my area in Denton County / they become more liberal the farther south you drive) are more conservative than typical democrats around the country. They have to be if they want to appeal to their constituents. To that end, I'm more inclined to support any other party than I am our republican party. As an example of the (local) oppressive Republican party - when someone writes our local congressman (Michael Burgess, R-26th) about anything he adamantly disagrees with, his office calls the police on them and makes the accusation of harassment (not one case has been prosecuted because no crime occurred). It's traitorous behavior. Our children weren't even allowed to watch the president's speech on TV because the school board believed our president is propagating socialism (the word Bigot comes to mind). Furthermore, our high school children are subjected to visits from a Baptist church during lunch as they pass out pamphlets and tell people that Christianity is the "ONLY" religion (my daughters Jewish friends cower in class when the church people come). I wonder: If you lived in my community would you be inclined to support the sectarian conservative entrenched republicans, or would you be leaning toward a less oppressive party (any party) who will represent the community equally without calling the police on constituents who respectfully disagree?
