| subject: | Cory.... latest IEP |
Hi Regina, How have things been at your house??? It's gotten chaotic here... but that's when I thrive the best! Cory's IEP was last week... they held part of it without me... which was just fine, since it went the way I would have suggested. The rest of the IEP will be held the end of the month. This is what was decided: Cory will be placed in an individualized academic program... with an expectancy of 80% accuracy. He is capable of this. Which means he will have to try a little harder to concentrate. There will be intense focus on his fine motor skills.... primarily printing. He is still all over the page... even when it is lined. There has been a new reward/incentive program set up, which he seems to respond to well. The aide will be using the (???) B.F. Skinner model for pro-social behavior. I will be getting more information about this one. The school wants Cory's psychiatrist to do academic testing again. He was last tested at 4 years old, but there has been alot of development since then. There wasn't anything that I wouldn't have agreed to.... but they also know I need to sign the IEP... so this is all just a precursor to the meeting later this month. It is by no means is complete... they just want to see how much I will agree to. I'll let you know how that meeting goes. Take care, Desiree ... No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway. ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30 [NR] --- Maximus/2 2.01wb MARK PROBERT (On 13 Apr 97) was overheard expounding to BOB MOYLAN MP> I instructed Josh to tell the teacher this: MP> I am afraid to stay in your class as you have given so-and-so MP> notice that being a sneak is OK, and that he can do it to me again. MP> Your first responsibility to a student is to provide a safe learning MP> environment. MP> He then goes to the Principal's office until the end of the period. He MP> only had to do it once to each teacher. Noted and filed, with thanks, for future reference. Not really feasible for an elementary student. MP> I have just learned that the school district is providing twenty hours MP> of teacher training in classroom management for ADHDers. The MP> instructor is Barry McNamara, Ph. D. professor of psych at Dowling MP> College in Oakdale, NY and an author of a book on ADHD. And my Friday MP> lunch buddy. You would like him. No nonsense, kid oriented, a real MP> WYSIWYG type of guy. Locally they are still using a 2 hour video and showing it in 15 min segments during weekly faculty meetings... most of them still just don't get it. MP> I suggested that they hire him for training two years ago BEFORE Josh MP> started school. He graduates in June. Just in time for someone else. Closing the barn door...?? ...
