Hi Wanda
If you have sewn before this idea will work. Even if you haven't
sewing squares together will be quite easy. You could cut out the
6 " squares and alternate them with a 6" solid color square to
separate them or sash them - adding solid strips about 2 1/2" wide
between the blocks to separate them.
It would make the different logos stand alone instead of
competing for your eye when you look at the quilt.
WG> What do you think of this idea? I'd like to make one each for the
WG> 2 boys. Another idea with this, is to transfer a photo of Chris
WG> and Bobby and some of their friends pictures in different activities
WG> as squares.
This would also be a great idea. Again, I would suggest the sashing
to keep the photos separated.
WG> Does this sound do-able to a non-quilter? I'd really like to give
WG> it a shot. They would be like memory quilts for the boys.
You can do this as it is a simple quilt. You are not attempting to
do a very complicated pattern so I am sure, as a non-quilter, you can
do it and become a quilter!
WG> I need some help here, some encouragement! I'm a little chicken,
WG> but desparately want to try it. Thanks for any ideas and help.
I would also suggest going to the library to find a beginner's
quilting book so that you will get ideas on how to put your quilt
together, how to make a hanging sleeve to hang it and how to put the
binding on. You don't have to do any fancy quilting stitches just
machine stitch between the squares and I'm sure your boys would be
proud to hang their memory quilts.
And don't be afraid to ask any of the quilters here for more advice
if you don't quite understand what the book is telling you :)
