DM> I have used EMX/GCC to produce OS/2 and OS/2 PM executables. However, I DM> am not really interested in producing text-based DM> applications; I am interested in producing OS/2 PM DM> apps (and possibly in the future - WPS 32-bit apps). DM> Unfortunately, there is no resource editor for gcc2 DM> which was the reason I abandoned programming for OS/2 DM> and switched back to Win. Many OS/2 compilers DM> are too pricey and/or resource hogs. Such as DM> VisualAge C++. It is too expensive, and even if it DM> was given to me, I couldn't use because of it its DM> RAM/HD space/processor needs. If you were to use only the portions of IBM VAC++ that are equivalent to with EMX/GCC gives you, as I do, the above claim is not true. In addition (with out much memory or disk use), you also get a great GUI based debugger, and the choice of two simple dialog editors (not to be confused with Visual Builder). You also get a free issue of the devcon cdrom's (5 or 6 cd's now) when you register it. The "visual" part of IBM's compiler is written in SmallTalk, and is a resource hog. It is quite powerful, but not for me. That doesn't mean I still don't like/use the rest of the package. DM> The other day, I received DAPIE - Developer's API DM> (Application Program Interface) Extensions or DAX DM> version 1.0 by the FTN ibmNET. DM> Anyways, my question I wanted ask you how well does DM> this DAPIE work with EMX/GCC? IBM Cset/va? Borland? DM> Watcom? and others? DAPIE officially supports IBM Cset++ 2.1 (I have been using it with VAC++ 3.0 and Watcom 10.0). DM> out there? Or is there a converter that could convert DM> the resources created in BC++ for win to os2? On the devcon cdroms there is a tool called SMART which does a good job at converting resources, icons, bitmaps, and help. --- Maximus/2 3.00* Origin: Sol 3 * Toronto * V.32 * (905)858-8488 (1:259/414) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 259/414 400 99 250/99 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
