Same bird at ORD. Heavy fog ceiling 100 and the AAL B727 hit the approach
lights, wiped off one or more of the landing gear and the #1 engine broke off
the mounts. Plane then skidded 2500 feet. Small piece in the AM news that AAL
had changed landing criteria for B727s and other older birds without
equipment extreme low ceilings. To compound the problem, a UAL bird was
cleared to land with the AAL partially obstructing the runway. UAL touched
down, seen the B727 and climbed out. Amazingly little comment on TV.
