They need open water for food here as our pine forests don't have
the plant food that your grassy areas do. South of me where there's
agriculture, geese love landing and feeding in the stubble of
harvested grain fields as there is always some seed left behind on
the ground.

You'll be pleased to know that Indigenous northern hunters have
murdered thousands of them in recent days. On one of my other food
groups I saw a photo of a tipi being used as a smoke house with over
200 geese hanging in it. That was in Fort Severn, Ontario on the
south shore of Hudson Bay where breakup come earlier in the year
than here.
Sliced goose breast makes wonderful jerky!
