BOB MOYLAN was thinking about "Crime" & Punishment and keyed into
cyberspace:
BM>MARK PROBERT (On 09 Apr 97) was overheard expounding to GWENNA BOWERS
BM> MP> Then, you could ask the teacher if they saw the "misbehavior" or
BM> MP> was it merely reported to them by one of the other kids.
BM> This came up with my son the week before spring break...
BM> He was involved in a "shoving match" that was (later) found to have
BM> been instigated by another child. He attempted to tell the teacher
BM> what had happened - as he has been instructed at least a quadrillion
BM> times to do - the teacher's response was that she didn't see it
BM>start all she saw was my son shoving the other kid. Guess who got
BM>sent to the office? Guess who got a call from the AP? Guess who
BM>was in the AP's office the next morning? Aww...come on take a
BM>guess... (-;
You? :) Please make it more difficult?
BM> New procedure...
BM> Whenever my boy is provoked by another kid he tells the teacher
BM>(same as before) if the teacher handles it that's that. If the
BM>response he gets is "I didn't see it" his response is to tell that
BM>teacher, "okay, but it still happened, what are YOU going to do to
BM>stop it from happening again." Told the AP I would not entertain
BM>any referrals to the office from any teacher in the building for
BM> "disrespect" because he made that statement to a teacher. We have a
BM> little drill on this every morning on the way to school... he's got
BM> it down pat (I hope), we'll see.., Followed up that meeting with the
BM> usual letter asking her to make any corrections if my "recollection"
BM> of the conversation had any significant error....got a zerox copy
BM> back with a hand written note saying she agreed. I think she 1/2 way
BM> gets what I'm talking about..
BM> It is just so DAMN MUCH FUN !!
I instructed Josh to tell the teacher this:
I am afraid to stay in your class as you have given so-and-so
notice that being a sneak is OK, and that he can do it to me again. Your
first responsibility to a student is to provide a safe learning
environment.
He then goes to the Principal's office until the end of the period. He
only had to do it once to each teacher.
BM> MP> It is a very bad situation and I do not like it one bit. It is
BM> MP> designed to keep parents in the dark, and allow bad management
BM> MP> practices to go unchallenged.
BM> Very little in the way of bad management goes unchallenged ... they
BM>know me ...
I have just learned that the school district is providing twenty hours
of teacher training in classroom management for ADHDers. The instructor
is Barry McNamara, Ph. D. professor of psych at Dowling College in
Oakdale, NY and an author of a book on ADHD. And my Friday lunch buddy.
You would like him. No nonsense, kid oriented, a real WYSIWYG type of
guy.
I suggested that they hire him for training two years ago BEFORE Josh
started school. He graduates in June. Just in time for someone else.
