Hi, Paul.
PE> FM> What's the best way to go in these troubled times?
PE> That's a difficult question.
I only ask difficult questions.
PE> First of all there's a major issue, I won't have ANY fidonet echos as
PE> fidonet as soon as I get the unix stuff working. Are you planning on
PE> collecting comp.locuser.tml from me?
Er, no. I don't think so. Huh?
How do I get that? I suppose that means, how do I get internet
newsgroups. Is that what they're called?
PE> FM> A) Only talk to John. Issue 1: Do you get all the echoes from John
PE> FM> (including LocUser & LocSysop - LocUser in particular for you for
PE> FM> share trading).
PE> Ok, since I won't be sending fidonet traffic to John (after I cut over),
PE> there will no longer be share trading via LOCUSER. Do you have an internet
PE> address?
Yes. camstock{at}ozemail.com.au Tell me if you got a message yesterday. Or
if you didn't.
PE> FM> Issue 2: Do your points who have not yet converted
PE> FM> to John or elsewhere also get all the echoes.
PE> I don't think anyone who hasn't moved has actually disconnected from any
PE> echos (there's not much point in disconnecting from an echo if there's no
PE> traffic in it anyway!). I'm not sure what the question is though.
The question was, if I write/reply to one of your points as 3:711/934.xx
(because they haven't yet cut over) through John's system, do they get
the mail? Echomail? Netmail?
PE> FM> B) Talk to John for everything except LocUser & LocSysop.
Issue 2 still
PE> FM> applies.
PE> You can have this setup for maybe another week or so (this Linux stuff is a
PE> pain in the arse, last night I spent 4 hours attempting to recompile the
PE> kernel to include PPP and I still haven't been successful!). Getting those
PE> echos from John means there's an extra delay because you're going via an
PE> extra system.
Fuck, how do normal people get it to work then! Or, don't normal people
use Linux? It's a Unix variant, isn't it? I guess not a lot would want
to.
PE> FM> C) Check origin lines for where people are coming from. Write/reply to
PE> FM> them there, for all echoes.
PE> Yeah, you can dual-point if you want.
Messy though, especially if people change to John after they write a
message on TML to which I want to reply.
PE> FM> What do you think? I guess my ideal would be a total switch to John for
PE> FM> the time being - if that maintains connectivity with all the people I
PE> FM> want to talk to & hear from.
PE> Yes, that will cover everything except people posting into AUST_AVTECH etc
PE> from here, but I think people will stop doing that and start posting in
PE> LOCUSER instead, e.g. Brenton wrote a message in AUST_AVTECH and I replied
PE> to it in LOCUSER.
Hmmm, so locuser/locsysop gets to and from John, but AvTech (and others?
which?) doesn't?
OK, I think I'll just talk to John from now on. But it depends a bit on
the answers to the above I suppose.
Regards, fIM.
