Yesterday, Firday 13, 1998, S/Sgt. Edward Gudelis passed away
and proceeded to a Better Place. He was a waist gunner on our
B-17 Crew that was shot down over Memmingen, Germany on July 18,
1944.
Eddie was on his 40th mission and about through his tour of
combat duty. He and four other gunners of our crew survived the
infamous 600 mile winter death march across Germany. His ability
to speak a Slavic language helped the crew survive the ordeal.
Three of us from that crew now survive. Merle Black, copilot
who was not shot down as he was bumped for the "milk run." John
Catherine, radio/gunner, who lives in Jersey Shores, Pennsylvania.
And myself, James C. Sanders, bombardier.
Please say a little prayer for Eddie.
