I won't tell them what to use unless they ask me what I think they would
need to mmet the objective.

I'm not sure it's the same thing but how would you deal with the employee
whose lateness caused by car trouble appeared to be endemic.  Tell him or
her to get the car fixed or try to find the real cause?
