Hello Cindy, >BA>In the case of pennies, one could just melt down the whole coin - but >BA>pennies aren't made entirely of copper any more. CH>Nod. Make jewelry, age it, sell it as Authentic Ancient Native American CH>Indian wear. Does good business in New Mexico. Years ago, in Tennessee, a elderly Cherokee Indian used to make jewelry out of copper pennies and sell it to tourists. But he was later arrested on charges of defacing U.S. currency. The judge found the charges so frivolous he threw it out of court, to the surprise of the U.S. agents who had arrested him. In any event, it looks like the penny will soon become a thing of the past, since it costs more to make a penny than a penny is worth. As a result, everything will soon be rounded off to the nearest nickel. Probably rounded up, rather than rounded down. IOW, if an item costs $1.37, you will pay $1.40 for that item. And when it comes to change, it it shows $1.39, you will get $1.35 in change. Kind of a consumer rip off both ways. --Lee * SLMR 2.1a * Be all that you can be: an equal opportunity asshole. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 @PATH: 123/140 500 379/1 633/267 |
