An uncle of mine, Hugh Wallace Willey was 35 when drafted for
WW II. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt. at age 36. He went through
the Pacific War with Gen. Kenney's Fifth Air Force as an ordnance
officer. From Australia to Japan.
He and I were both recalled for the Korean war. He retired as
Full Colonel while I only made it to Lt. Col. He was more like
an older brother than an uncle...
