Hello Paul,

PE>> What specifically are you after?

JT> Basically replacing dos/windows software I'm running on my workstation
JT> now. I'll probably still run a dos machine on my old 486 that I have lying
JT> around, and convert my pentium to linux/nt. I have some windows sofware
JT> that ONLY comes as windozs. (cd writer, organiser software, phone book,
JT> graphics editing, tape backup software, adobe acrobat reader).
JT> I might be able to get away without that graphics editor, and maybe
JT> acrobat, but everything else pisses me right off because the software is
JT> crap and is ONLY available as windowz. Can't even get to write my own
JT> because they saw fit to not release info/protocols, which leaves me no
JT> choice but to use windoz. I think there is a windoz emulator that comes
 JT> with xwindows?

PE> Yes, there is something called "wine", but I don't know how good it
PE> is. You can do MSDOS emulation under Linux as well, which I tried
PE> briefly. You can probably get tape backup software under Linux for
PE> your tape too. BFN. Paul.

I can roll together another PC to use as my dos machine, I don't do heavy duty
work in dos, so it's not a problem.
I'm using Arcserve for the tape backup, and it lives on the server. It will
only become a problem if I have to restore, or manage the tape schedules.
There is that windows emulator, so I'll see if I can get that to work. I'll
have to get video drivers though, I remember having a limited choice when I
first installed it.
