Maybe you hit the nail on the head. How many problem teens have a real and
good relationship with a father figure? I think the key here is
"RELATIONSHIP", with or without guns. My father never had guns in the house,
but we had and have a very strong and healthy relationship. I don't think
that money fits into the picture either. I have two brothers, and we were
showered with love, care, and guidance. We didn't realize that we were poorer
than Job's turkey, and we all turned out fine.
I read your response to the plan and share many of your same concerns. I
would also ask many of the same questions that you asked. How to you do that,
and how to you make that work? I've been involved in some very successful
programs, and I've worked in others that failed miserably. I think that
citizen involvement is the key to success. See a later message for some ideas
that appear to work.
I also share your thoughts about throwing more laws and more money at the
problem. It is obvious that the Juvenile Justice System has not been very
efficient with the money and resources they have been given. I think that we
need to go back to basics and throw all of the current ideas and procedures
out the window. Just thoughts.
