JW> As Mario Semo will tell you, OS/2 WARP comes with (an early version of) the SOM 2.1 runtime. When I last checked, Watcom C++ 10.0 shipped with the SOMObjects Developers' Toolkit for SOM 1.x, and I don't believe that this has changed with 10.5. Although you can run SOM 1.x programs on a SOM 2.1 runtime, it's very slow. You are better off developing SOM 2.x applications. AFAIAA, if you ask Watcom, they *will* ship you the 2.x SOMObjects Developers Toolkit. Contact their support helpdesk. Incidentally, you should beware the Watcom C++ installation program. It's stupid; it doesn't check to see whether it is downgrading your SOM runtime version. So you should check your LIBPATH and the location of your SOM runtime(s) carefully after installation and before restarting your system. JW> > The book ends with chapters covering things to come - SOM 2.1 and > MetaWare's DirectToSOM C++ which I know I should be using but ..... JW> SOM 2.1 and DTS C++ are already here, and have been for some while now. I *really* wish that Watcom would catch up with the rest of the field and provide DirectToSOM with their compiler. > JdeBP < ___ X MegaMail 2.10 #0: --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: DoNoR/2,Woking UK (44-1483-725167) (2:440/4) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 440/4 141/209 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
