MW> MW> RF> I thought it was time to repost this message. I posted it
MW> MW> RF> just before school started. New people have joined with the
MW> MW> RF> same problems that plague as all. I hope this helps you all
MW> MW> RF> out. Also please note that this is in the U.S. If you live
MW> MW> RF> outside the U.S. You may contact C.H.A.D.D as they have
MW> MW> RF> some chapters in other areas such as Canada.

MW> MW> Thank you Regina...I have copied this to my h/d and will give it
MW> MW>to my daughter..she has been having a problem getting the school
MW> MW>to recoginize her daughter as being ADD...
MW> MP> If your daughter presents a medical diagnosis of ADHD, and,
MW> MP> documents that there impact on learning, then the school HAS TO
MW> MP> ACCEPT IT. Have her contact her state ed dept and ask for
MW> MP> anything they have on the the rights of the child.
MW> It is not the school that she is having a problem with...it is the
MW>fact that she doesn't have any insurance for her daughter so the
MW>doctors have decided that she will not be put on any
MW>medication...but until they found out that she was not insured, they
MW>had suggested medication..Amanda (my granddaughter) is very
MW>hyper..and she talks 25 hours of every day...:)
MP> The generics are relatively cheap and should not be that expensive. I
MP> think that that is a rather poor piece of medicine.
I will have to get her to my computer and have her explain to you just
exactly what happened..I am getting it second hand and may be getting
things mixed up..
MW> The school has her in a special class and gives her the extra
MW>attention that she requires, at least so far..she is only in
MW> kindergarden..but by the fact that the doctors have decided she does
MW>not need medication, the school is not sure how severe her ADD
MW>is...but I will tell her to contact the State Ed. Department...thank
MW>you...
MP> Medication is IRRELEVANT to the issue of severity in an educational
MP> setting. If the ADD is affecting her educationally, then it counts for
MP> special services. Severity is NOT an educational issue, but a medical
MP> one.
Again, I will have her explain what she was told by the school and the
doctors..I do know that Amanada has been diagnosed as being ADD..and
that the school recognizes this but I am not sure exactly what the
problem is...I am sorry I am not being clear about this..
Marie
... And on some days, in various ways, I feel totally *clueless*!
