-=> Quoting Frank Malcolm to Paul Edwards <=-

Hello Frank,

PE> First of all there's a major issue, I won't have ANY fidonet echos as
PE> fidonet as soon as I get the unix stuff working. Are you planning on
 PE> collecting comp.locuser.tml from me?

FM> Er, no. I don't think so. Huh?

FM> How do I get that? I suppose that means, how do I get internet
FM> newsgroups. Is that what they're called?

Once paul is set up, I will probably be setting up gating software here to
get packets from paul. I don't know if it's going to work though, but if it
does work, all my users/points will access internet mail/newsgroups exactly the
same as fido. Except the names of the echos will be different.

FM> The question was, if I write/reply to one of your points as
FM> 3:711/934.xx (because they haven't yet cut over) through John's system,
FM> do they get the mail? Echomail? Netmail?

The only echomail between here and paul (alive) is locuser & locsysop. Any
netmail you send to 3:711/934.x can be sent via here. It *will* get to paul
providing he is still set up for fido, won't be for much longer though.

PE> You can have this setup for maybe another week or so (this Linux stuff
PE> is a pain in the arse, last night I spent 4 hours attempting to recompile
PE> the kernel to include PPP and I still haven't been successful!). Getting
PE> those echos from John means there's an extra delay because you're going
 PE> via an extra system.

FM> Fuck, how do normal people get it to work then!

 With great difficulty! :-)

FM> Or, don't normal people use Linux?

It depends on how you define "normal". :-)

FM> It's a Unix variant, isn't it? I guess not a lot would want to.

Only thing stopping me is lack of software, but this situation is improving.

PE> Yes, that will cover everything except people posting into AUST_AVTECH etc
PE> from here, but I think people will stop doing that and start posting in
PE> LOCUSER instead, e.g. Brenton wrote a message in AUST_AVTECH and I replied
 PE> to it in LOCUSER.

FM> Hmmm, so locuser/locsysop gets to and from John, but AvTech (and
 FM> others? which?) doesn't?

AUST_AVTECH mail does come from paul, but is not processed. Moot point now
as I haven't had any avtech traffic from paul for a while. It was active
(albeit quiet) for a short while, but dead now.
