I might have used incorrect terminology. Like any sane person, I hate themes
that put large, inscrutable icons everywhere. By "classic", I
meant the config
change that reverts the Start menu back to how it was in Win2000 - no
recently-used apps or pinned apps, and no access to Control Panel via a menu.

The XP Start menu does quite a nice job of showing frequently-used apps, and is
configurable to, for example, "pin" Command Prompt to the main
menu. You can
right-click the menu items for useful functions.

Actually, I forget what you could not do in Win2000, I just know that whereas
the new XP Start menu was just as shocking to me as it was to everyone else, I
now find the Win2000 menu (when I rarely come across it) to be less useful ...
although I can't quite remember all its slight issues.
