one should not run more than one virus scanner on a system at a time...
this includes today's active scanner stuff where a scanner is running all
the time... running more than one virus scanner at the time /should/ cause
problems because their signatures look like parts they are looking for...
this is to be expected and if it doesn't happen, then something else is
wrong...

so, the gist is on a BBS machine, one likely does not want to run an active
virus scanner if they are trying to run other scanners to scan uploaded
files from their users... in today's world, this shouldn't be much of a
problem because users generally don't upload files like they used to do
before the internet came along...
