RW>Not quite, if you call the arrest part of the chain
>because a warrant isn't necessary to arrest someone. A
>cop can, more or less, arrest anyone he wants and until
>the arrestee gets in front of a judge he stays
>arrested.
You still need probable cause to make a valid arrest.
RW>Think about it. You could grab someone off the street
>at random and place them under arrest. When you got
>them to where ever you take the bad guy you tell the
>powers that be he tried to hit you. Now the guy is
>going scream that he didn't do anything, just like most
>of the people that come through. Now he is arrested
>and in jail for nothing and will stay there until he
>can get in front of a judge and post bail.
We were discussing reality, Rich. Not some fantasy. Maybe there are
officers that might do something like that; but it would be irregular
and illegal..........as well as foolish.
