Well, I think XMSGAPI/SMAPI should be able to read JAM bases without much
trouble.  The problem is that while reading mail you may be tempted to
reply to a message, writing to the base, and almost certainly corrupting
your JAM base in the process.

I don't really recommend compiling with SMAPI because they've changed their
API between versions so I'm not really sure if it's going to compile or
not, depending on which version of SMAPI you have installed.

Instead, download the latest XMSGAPI snapshot [1] (or do a CVS checkout
[2]) and follow the instructions in timed/doc/INSTALL.
