JW> Black Walnut: The Killer Tree

Interesting stuff that I never knew. Thanks.
I'm not sure that I have ever had black walnuts. I have had walnuts,
but believe them to be English walnuts. My neighbor in Columbia used to
go shopping in the woods behind our houses to harvest black walnuts.
Extracting the nut was a major project. The nut shell has a black stain
that seems to impossible to remove -- hence he wore long rubber gloves.
The shells were also hard to open. I recall reading that some folks put
them in their driveway and drove over them to crack the shell. Not sure
if that part is true or not.
