following up a message from Martin Schiller to Warren Zatwarniski:

I just flashed with the 1.44-12 and set s191=126 and got 33.6 between my two 
SFMs and a couple of 31200 connects with downlinks. But I'm afraid that the 
line quality in this area isn't all that the telco would have had me believe. 
When I dropped the s191 setting to 124 I was able to force a 31200 connect 
with my NEC, and it had so many errors that the CPS rate dropped to about 
1700. According to the changes text file included, the s191 had been disabled 
in the 1.44-09 version, which is most likely why Patricks suggestion to 
adjust it, earlier, had no effect on the connects.
I'm happy!
