RF>Can someone that Breeds BCC tell me if i am doing anything wrong?
RF>My birds are set up in a nice flight 4x4. The male has started to pick
RF>at the females featers and i have seen them in the nest box several
RF>times.but i have not seen any eggs.. She will sometimes sit in there 1
RF>day and then the next she will not go into it till i shut out the lights
RF>in the room and both sleep in there. Why are they not mating and laying?
RF>They are a proven pair that i had gotten from a friend of mine and with
RF>the papers from zoogen i know that they are a sexed and bonded pair.
You may be rushing things. Just because a pair was "proven" with someone
else does NOT guarantee that they will breed for you. It may be YEARS
before they breed in your home. Birds are not like dogs who will
reproduce on a set schedule when you bring a male and female together at
a certain time.
The conures may need more time to be comfortable with your setup,
your home, the sounds of your family, the other birds in proximity to
them, feeding schedule, diet, light/darkness schedule, the nestbox, the
weather, etc.
If he's picking at her, he might want to breed and she may not be ready.
I'd watch them CLOSELY for signs of aggression, and have an empty cage
handy to separate them at first instance of any attacks.
