Hmmm. How old are you, Shane?
Cogeneration is a fairly widely known concept, but that does not mean
everybody's heard of it. [grin]
Cogeneration is a means of extracting double duty from some energy
source. Within the scope of your typical backyard homeowner such
cogeneration systems might be a gas or diesel motor driven generator
that also provides heat for the home. Thus, a homeowner can get
electricity and heat for the price of the electricity.
Not too long ago I posted an article on my ideas on retiring a car,
and using the engine to make electricity and heat. Did you see it? I
could heat the house, and the electricity would provide for all our
needs *plus* charge an electric car for around town.
Other cogeneration systems involve methane production and
fertillizer. This is not viable for me, but could be for those who
corale farm animals, or have a lot of bio-waste.
For most of us a gas driven generator is the most cost effective way
to go. Any questions?
