disconnect it and instead attach a coax cable to the point on the pcb
(with the sheild going to a nearby ground point on the pcb.

On the other end of the coax attach a directional antenna designed for the
FM broadcast radio band (near 100Mhz) A VHF television antenna will work
but antennad designed for fm radio may work better.

if you don't get enough improvement with that setup you could try puttin
notch filters in the cable to attenuate cut the unwanted signals

Dunno where you'd get a crystal like that, it might need to be custom made.
borrow a PLL tuner if you can, see how well that performs I doubt a crystal
stabilised receiver will perform greatly better than a pll.

probably, dunno the scanner. dunno if the scanner can handle broadcast FM
ISTR broadcast using a different bandwidth.

Sounds like that jack may be for a shortwave antenna. if so it won't help
with FM.

Your best bet is to use a yagi or other beam antanna designed for the
frequency (or band) you want. (And point it in the right direction.)

Once you've got the signal inside some coax you can pipe it through filters
to cut the crap.

I had trouble receiving a weak distant tranmitter on 98.3 because of a
strong near one on 97.7 but did the modification I describe above and stuck
a TV-style coaxial socket on the back of my radio and used it for an
external antenna. (initially a roof-mounted VHF TV antenna)
