Some senseless babbling from Herbert Rosenau to Mike Ruskai

I'm well aware of the difference between the functions. What we're talking
about is just PM input messages being sent asynchronously. The return
value isn't used by PM for any reason other than notification that the
message has been received.

Obviously there are issue which prevent a simple function substitution, but
it's not fundamental to the operating in question, which is passing
messages that do not require an informational response.
