| subject: | OS/2 C++ Programming? |
Hi Mike,
WS> So is this EMS c or C++?
MR> EMX supports both. C is what's termed a procedural language,
MR> and C++ is what's termed an object-oriented language. ++ is
MR> the increment operator (var=var+1) in C, and as the name
MR> indicates, C++ is based on C, so it's backwards compatible
MR> with it (with a few arcane exceptions).
OK thanks... I wasn't sure on this as some people mentioned C but I was
really looking for C++ so this helps...
WS> I've downloaded all the files from the OS/2 Super Site on the
WS> internet... Now all I have to do is work it all out:) But I would
MR> like
WS> to get something like Watcomm as it would have manuals and all
MR> that
WS> kinda stuff...
WS> If not does Watcom 10.x or 11.x series compile OS/2 executables?
MR> They'll probably fix bugs for a while, but the product itself
MR> is not receiving updates. The new owner of the company,
MR> Sybase (who bought it from Powersoft, who had shortly before
MR> acquired Watcom), is not releasing an OS/2 version of their
MR> new Watcom-based compilers.
OK so the Watcom C++ will do nicely though as OS/2 doesn't seem to be
getting upgraded either...
WS> Thanks for all your other points/tips It's muchly appreciated...
MR> Unless you're planning on writing device drivers, you won't
MR> need to worry about 16-bit code. Even then, there are ways to
MR> avoid using it.
Well I'm not planning on much really at the moment:) But when/if I get the
hang of any of this I'll get into what I'm after which is BBS Utils/Doors
and the like...
