 Re: Jell-O

DM> I know it's uses in pies. And in what else?

The jell-O company does make pie fillings but we are talking about
their packages of sweet fruit flavoured gelatin here.

People add the powder from the box into boiling water, add fruit and let
it chill until it sets to make a jellied dessert that gets called a
"salad" for some reason I can't explain.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Strawberry Jello Salad
 Categories: Jello, Dairy, Fruit, Salads
      Yield: 10 Servings

      2 pk Strawberry JELLO
           - 3 oz size
      2 pk Frozen strawberries
           - small, in juice
      1 cn Pineapple, crushed
           - 20 oz size, drained
      3 md Bananas
     16 oz Sour cream

This salad can be made in a 9 X 13" pan OR in a Bundt pan. Spray pan
with PAM. In a medium sized mixing bowl dissolve 1 pkg JELLO in 1 cup
boiling water. Add 1 pkg frozen strawberries. Stir to melt as much
as possible. If there is still a chunk of strawberries, defrost in
the microwave until strawberries separate easily. Add strawberries
and juice to JELLO mixture. Add 1/2 can drained crushed pineapple.
Add 1 1/2 sliced bananas. Pour mixture into pan and refrigerate until
set (about an hour). Spread container of sour cream over set JELLO
  mixture and return to refrigerator.

Repeat directions for JELLO mixture with the other pkg of JELLO, the
other half of the pineapple, and the rest of the bananas. Pour over
  the sour cream layer.

  Refrigerate until set (several hours).

Salad can be served directly from the 9X13" pan. If made in the Bundt
pan slide a knife down each of the ridges in the pan to loosen the
JELLO. Then invert onto a platter or tray at least 6" larger in
  diameter than the Bundt pan.

If you can unmold this is in one piece it looks really impressive. If
you mess it up while unmolding it looks gross, but it still tastes
  great!
