JT> Like that bloody monorail abortion? What the hell were they JT> thinking? That's the trouble with engineers, they just do and JT> don't question if what they're doing is the best way. No! My pipe would work perfectly, and be cheap, too. Never put an engineer in charge, but once you define the problem, you can trust us to find the best, cheapest solution. It's one of the basic problems in our society, btw... the World's society that is; Australia no longer has engineers, just uni-wankers with paper degrees. If you have a transport problem, moving people in and out of a CBD cheaply, reliably, and *attractively*, what it needs is a team of engineers studying *that* problem. How it works in the real-world is that a team of no-hoper politicians take a junket overseas and come back with whatever "solution" they found - usually from whatever American company that bribed them last. Then, the engineers are turned loose on how to make a monorail work (or whatever cockamaimie idea the useless politicians came back with). This explains why you see so many old-retired railway engineers coming up with designs for light rail, trams, and stuff like that. They have time to look at the actual problem, and solve *that*. Anyone with half-a-brain knows that trams work. You don't even have to go overseas... go to Melbourne! And they fuck traffic. Good! Isn't that the idea... to force people to use the trams? JT> "I don't know nothink, I just work here". I'm afraid you exist in the post-engineer world, John. It wasn't anything like that in the 60's. The dills today think that the sixties were all about Vietnam, sex 'n' drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll. Wrong! The 60's were when we had all those engineers left over from WWII, creating! And the new generation they trained... like me. That's why I'll cheer when that fuckwit Gough Whitlam dies soon. He didn't even know he had the chance to make Australia great... simply by ignoring the US and their fucking Economic Rationalism.
