Drive a 100 km to the east from here and you are in Germany. No border
controls, just a sign saying you are entering Germany. Then "phone
home" With a cell phone. It will cost you EUR 1 a minute plus a 1 EUR
call setup fee. 10 times as much as phoning home with the cell phone from
within the Netherlands. The EU has been trying to stop these greedy
practises for years but with little or no success.

The borders have gone, but that does not mean the EU is one country. It is
not. Not by a long way and I don't expect to live to see it.
