> I always talk to the cop. They all say "10K" (not 10%), so like > you I drive juse under 10K over. JT> This applies to Queensland, NSW and south australia. Don't know JT> about other states. I've read a recent rumor that Victoria has JT> their radar/laser/cameras etc set to 3Km/h over. That's just JT> stupid. No-one has that much control over their car. It's difficult to know what's true when Government bureaucracy puts their own Spin of the truth. That crash "test" showing how dangerous it is to do 65 instead of 60 is a classic example. Tghere is so much Spin on TV nowadays that I just flip channels whenever I see a politician or a bureaucracy. The one thing you know to be true, is that it'll be a lie. > Isn't it a 50K suburban limit in Victoria? It's years since I've > driven there. JT> It's probably gone down to 40 by now. And people are still JT> getting killed. I saw an interesting thing on TV the other night... they re-staged the original competition when Stevenson's ROCKET won the contract for the LMS railway in England. Apparently, the fix was in. They nobbled the main competion, so they rebuilt the three steam trains and ran the tests again. ROCKET won... but the thing that impressed me was how FUCKING dangerous it was on top of those old boilers at 35 mph! The passengers just hung on as best they could. We've lost the spirt of danger and adventure in the last 100 years, and mostly in the last 20. Modern cars are too safe! Bring back drum brakes and cross-ply tyres. JT> I don't trust any vehicle I own, let alone any vehicle that I'm JT> not familiar in. Basically, if it isn't GPS verified, I don't JT> trust it. Regardless of whatever certificate and/or lab says. > After you've driven it for a while, you get a pretty good idea > against what the other cars are doing, especially on an > expressway. JT> I don't think so Tim. I don't trust the vehicle I'm in, what JT> makes you think I'm going to trust some idiot in his car? I am a great believer in averages. So what if *everyone's* speedo is stuffed - how does it help you, is yours is the only accurate one? Get real, John. No man is an island... join the continent. When the RTA started this "zero-tolerance" bullshit (we'll book you at 61 kmph) there was a period when I found myself driving up the arse of other drivers doing 55. I began to wonder if my speedo was reading low, but now they've all sped up and tootle along at 65 as usual. Either my speedo had a brain fart, or they did. Driving in traffic allows you to check your speedo against *hundreds* of others.
