I don't like taxes. Nobody does except the tax man. But, I mind paying
them less when I get something in return. We had a rarity here. A penny
per gallon motor fuel tax to be used to fix the streets and roadways.
There were some pot-holes you could hide a Volkswagen Beetle in. And,
wonder of wonders, It worked. The streets got put back into reasonable
shape. And when the tax hit its "Sunset" date they stopped collecting it.
Now, if the feral gummint would institute a single-payer health system
similar to the UK and Canada ..........

Title: Chex School Fuel
Categories: Snacks, Chocolate, Grains
Yield: 16 Servings
3/4 c Packed brown sugar
6 tb Butter
3 tb Light corn syrup
1/4 ts Baking soda
4 c Corn chex cereal *
4 c Rice chex cereal *
1/4 c Semisweet chocolate chips
* In Canada use Shreddies, in UK, Australia and NZ Chex
(by Cereal Partners) are available.
Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. Microwave brown sugar,
butter and corn syrup in large microwavable bowl uncovered
on High 1 to 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until
butter is melted. Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Stir
in cereals. Microwave on High 3 minutes, stirring every
minute. Spread on cookie sheet.
Cool 10 minutes; break into bite-size pieces.
Microwave chocolate chips in small microwavable bowl on High
1 minute 30 seconds or until chocolate can be stirred smooth
(bowl will be hot). Drizzle chocolate over snack.
Refrigerate 30 minutes or until chocolate is set.
Store in airtight container.
Makes: 8 cups snack.
Important: Because microwaves cook differently, times are
approximate.
For pretzel or peanut lovers: Stir in 1 C broken pretzels
or 1/2 C honey-roasted peanuts with the cereal.
