Hi Phil,

About "RECEPTION, TV" of June 27:

MR> ...UHF dx from Burlington Vt. to Montreal, Qc. CND is excellent...
PM> Is that Channel-57, Mike? I got such a strong signal from them...

I was typing about that same story not so long ago... :-) I never
ever felt the need to subscribe to cable service when i lived on the 3rd
floor as the alignment between me and Vermont seemed next to ideal and i
had little trouble due to reflections!!! All of the twelve positions on
my VCR had a separate TV channel, as i recall; not always crystal-clear
but for someone who was used to the snow we get in the country-side that
was sort of getting access to a higher rank in the televisual world! :)

It didn't cost me much: a pre-amplifier i got from someone who had
switched to cable and a variable indoor amplifier plus some wiring; the
antenna was so rudimentary i feel ashamed to tell you what it was! I'll
do violence to myself and confess it all: i attached a spare ~UHF~ loop
to the pre-amplifier which itself was screwed to top of a wodden stick i
scavenged from an old mop, this antenna wasn't efficient for lower ~VHF~
frequencies but since i had so much trouble with being close to channel-
2 and 6 the configuration happened to suit my needs just fine i'd say...

                                  %-)

PM> ...summer, as you say, and it's news to me -- no signal at all.

Hummm... My experienced differs, i watched `Nova' on WCFE and that
was not really a problem for me to get it no matter what the season was.

Perhaps there's a strong signal degrading the reception? Just like
i explained in a previous message, one solution may be to filter it out.

PM> How BTW is TV reception in Three Rivers, Michel?

Like everything else: as if a bomb had been dropped over the city!
The 1st thing a Montrealer must consider when moving there is the rarity
of English content if he was used to appreciate bilingual programming...

     CHOM was my very 1st priority, it wasn't that hard to cope with it;
the next one was going digital, which involved spending some good money.

                                  %-7

When you're a "critic" TV consumer like myself local programming is
not satisfying at all... Specialty channels become a must no matter the
language, if that barrier doesn't exist life will only simplify a bit...

                                                           Salutations,

                                                           Michel Samson
