Charles Angelich wrote in a message to Phil Marlowe: CA> CDR to be more specific. CDRW are not as trustworthy long-term. Hm. Noted... I think they said they were working on 200 year paper? CA> They sold special ink for this too btw. :-) One wonders about that. I have a fair collection of books here, though not as extreme as some other folks I know of. There are paperbacks in there that are 20-30 years old and in damn good condition. There are also some of that vintage where the binding has out-and-out failed. Then I have some hardcover stuff where the publication dates go back to the 1930s and 40s, and these are in like brand new condition. I guess it's the quality of the paper and the whole product in general, when you get down to it. CA> I hadn't thought of that before but around here I have 15-20 year CA> old printouts that almost crumble if you try to unfold them. :-\ I forget what it was, but there was something around here that I ran across that was a real surprise as to the condition it was in, much worse than what I'd expected. OTOH I have other stuff around that's way older and still almost like new. I can't quite figure out what all of the factors are yet. ---* Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-838-8539 (1:270/615) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 270/615 150/220 379/1 106/1 2000 633/267 |
