One wonders about that.  I have a fair collection of books here,  though
not as extreme as some other folks I know of.  There are paperbacks in
there that are 20-30 years old and in damn good condition.  There are also
some of that vintage where the binding has out-and-out failed.  Then I have
some hardcover stuff where the publication dates go back to the 1930s and
40s,  and these are in like brand new condition.  I guess it's the quality
of the paper and the whole product in general,  when you get down to it.

I forget what it was,  but there was something around here that I ran
across that was a real surprise as to the condition it was in,  much worse
than what I'd expected.  OTOH I have other stuff around that's way older
and still almost like new.  I can't quite figure out what all of the
factors are yet.
