you'll get a variety of answers i'm sure but essentially it comes down
to this... a trojan (short for trojan horse program) is a program that
claims to do something desirable but does something undesirable (like
format the hard drive) without the user's knowledge...
it may actually do the desirable thing aswell, but the common definition
going around right now doesn't require that it does...
a virus is a program which uses the fact that it's host program (the
infected program, execution of which causes the execution of the virus
code) to perform self replication and possibly carry out any payload
activity (something like what a trojan would do)...
