JR> Thanks for the reply and words of welcome! I was a city gardener
JR> most of my life until the past few years. I am trying to take a 1/4
JR> acre lot which has no top soil, only builders fill, and make it look
JR> like a well landscaped, established yard. I have used many bails of
JR> spaghnum and bags of cow manure, and hard work!
I know about trying to garden without top soil. The area I live in
was nothing but sand when I started. It looked like the beach. I
haave added so darn much stuff over the years, peat, manure,
compost etc....that I would think I'd need a ladder to get to it.
It sure is hard work, but when you start seeing the soil
improve and start finding earthworms where none would live before
it's a good feeling!
JR> I have followed
JR> Fido's model train section for several years, but never thought to
JR> look for a gardening echo. I just discovered this echo
Glad you found us. There is a lot of good information in this
echo.
