ALABAMA
On Tuesday, February 3, the full House voted 64-28 to pass HB 32,
the "instant check" and expansion of preemption measure. It now
moves to a Senate committee for consideration. Check out the Feb.
2, 1998 posting on our website, www.nra.org for details or call
the Grassroots Division on why you should support HB 32.
COLORADO
On Monday, February 2, the NRA-backed range protection bill, HB
1170, was reported out of the House Local Government Committee
unanimously. This legislation would safeguard firearm training
facilities from being forced to close due to noise ordinances and
nuisance actions. HB 1170 now heads to the House floor for
consideration. Also, on Tuesday, February 10, the House State
Veterans and Military Affairs Committee will consider HB 1260.
This measure known as the Uniform Firearm Law Enforcement Act
would prevent a patchwork of local gun laws throughout the which
could easily trap unwary law-abiding citizens -- citizens who
could face criminal prosecution, and confiscation of personal
property if they unknowingly violate an obscure local law. And,
on Wednesday, February 11, the Senate Judiciary Committee will
consider SB 164. This legislation would essentially ban all
private sales of semi-automatic firearms. Not only would hunters
be prohibited from privately trading or selling their hunting
rifles, pistols and shotguns without going through a federally
licensed firearm dealer, but it would even outlaw private
transfers within families. MEMBERS, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE
REPRESENTATIVES AT (303) 866-2904 AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SUPPORT
HB 1170 AND HB 1260 AND CALL YOUR STATE SENATORS AT (303) 866-
2316 AND ASK THEM TO OPPOSE SB 164.

The Legislature has convened for the 1998 session and to be
expected ALL of the anti-gun bills introduced over the past two
years will be reintroduced (some already have been) during these
opening days of the legislature. NRA-ILA is vigilantly
monitoring all of these bills, but this is nothing more than a
regurgitation of previously failed legislation. We will keep you
posted as to developments with these or any new anti-gun bills.
SOUTH CAROLINA
H 3715 shooting range protection received a favorable report from
the Senate Labor, Industry and Commerce subcommittee and soon

VIRGINIA
Good Job! This past Tuesday, NRA-PVF endorsed candidate Dick
Black was victorious in his special election for house seat 32.
NRA members played a significant role in Black's victory. Hot
Action Items: In the House of Delegates , there are several
anti-gun proposals being considered. Those of main concern are
House bills 56 and 205, which would allow cities and counties to
place bans on where law-abiding gun owners could carry or
transport their firearms, even valid handgun permit holders.
And, HB 920, a triggerlock/mandatory storage bill which is
pending in the House Militia and Police Committee. MEMBERS:
PLEASE CALL YOUR DELEGATES TODAY AT (804) 698-1500 AND TELL THEM
TO OPPOSE HB 56, HB 205 AND HB 920 AS WELL AS ANY OTHER BILLS
THAT EFFECT OUR FIREARMS FREEDOMS.

for consideration . MEMBERS: PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS AND URGE
